Game Day 1 Report

01 Sep 2019
England vs Spain final score 1-14

SPAIN 14 ENGLAND 1 (HALF TIME 4-0)

Goal Scorer: Spencer Berry

Playing the first game is never easy especially when your opponents are the European Champions.

We have a young squad with 7 players eligible for next year and the players started very nervous.

Spain pressured us full rink all game making it very difficult for us to do our carousel.

We managed to keep our focus in defence in the first half which showed in the half-time score and due to our good restricted defence we managed to get good counter attacks and a few goal opportunities.

The second half was very hard as Spain kept full rink pressure on us for the full 20 minutes and our players showed tiredness; it was obvious to see the difference in competitiveness.

England team huddle

Our objective for this competition is still intact, the game versus Spain is now in the past and now we are to focus for our game against Italy on Tuesday. After the game and later in the evening, I had a sit down with all the players to ensure we kept our motivation for the week ahead and afterwards I could feel that the players were positive for the rest of the competition as one unit.

Well done to our English supporters for making so much noise during all the game and we want to see more during the week.
